Do not,
- not work hard
- show the unwillingness to learn or to go the extra mile
- not be there when required
- make excuses
- show that you are ignorant or obstinate or both
- not learn to adapt (e.g. do interact with members of the opposite gender…the attendings do not only want a machine as their resident but a friendly person willing to fit in and culturally adapt)
- accept a J1 visa. The J1 research visa has a lot of problems that are very hard to go around for people from Pakistan etc. I would recommend you come here on your visitor’s visa and during your impressive probation period, ask for an H1b visa.
As far as I know u have to
As far as I know u have to get J1 visa... I know one similar case and in that case, the person went out of US to get a J1 visa while she already had a B1/B2 visa but she was not allowed to do electives on that... anyhow u can request the department and see if they help...

Yes it is quite possible....
Research manuscript or Brief report
Hello. I recently submitted my research article to a journal with an impact factor of 3. however, i received a reply from them stating that the paper will not be accepted as a major article, rather i would have to shorten it to a brief report. I was wondering, should I try submitting it to another journal or should i go ahead with this journal as it may be my only chance? And do major articles have more of an impact than brief reports on my CV, or is the fact that i have published a paper is enough?
Hope to hear from you soon!
Thanks!
J1 Visa for research
Mr Umar,
I just came across your site and i find it quite relevamt to the issues pertaining to me.
Well, I am applying for the match of 2012. However, I have been offered a research position at one of the most prestigious positions. It is unpaid and is offering a J1 Visa.
I am highly doubtful of this visa as I am unaware of whether it can be converted to any other visa (J1 clinical or H1) for residency without the requirement of serving at home country.
I am not sure if the highly desired position is worth the change in visa status.
Appreciate your response,
SH
Thanks for your kind words;
J1 Research to H1b
Although i understand that you advise against getting a j1 research visa. But still if i go on research at J1 Research without 2 year obligation,
1) How long would it take to convert to a J1 Clinical for Pakistan? I see quite a number of people have done it on forums but still a lot of them have their stuff delayed too much. (I guess not a good idea to do )
2) What abt J1 Research to H1B Clinical ? Is it as bad as converting to J1 research or its easy ?
3) How about getting an H1B Research and doing research for like 6-7 months and then transferring to H1B Clinical? Is this the EASIET method ? ( I do understand the long term implications for Fellowship)
Please advise with the best option to chose from.
Regards
Thanks for your kind
1. anything from a week to several months...
2. depends upon your research program visa policy
3. i dont think it is possible to find h1b research for 6-7 months

i got a research at a gud university in US but they are offering me a J1 visa..
But as i have to neways go to US for my CS, so I was plannin that i'll go only on visitor's visa, before these research guys themselves offered me a J1 visa..

or is there ne other way out of J1 visa!!
