hi umar!i had a quick question. Actually I was wondering if I Could take step 1 from the US. The only thing That was stopping me was the thought that IS THE LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY OF THE EXAM SAME IN THE US AND INDIA. I mean ,will it harm or decrease my performance if I take the exam from USA. Incase u have an idea, or incase u know someone who has done the same, pls let me know. I hope I am not disturbing you. Thanks in anticipation !

Well... it is exactly the same.... not only in the difficulty level but also in all the other aspects... except that u wont expect any load-shedding, computer breakdown or any other unfortunate incident during exam in US....lol... even I am seriously considering of giving all my USMLE exams in US!!! tc and best of luck!

satshriakaal Dr.Umar...

I have just started my internship n also decided to give USMLE only now..so in a way will give step 1 in sept or october..n will go for electives from november to january if everything will be on the time..BUT my problem is that am personally interested in NEUROLOGY but dont have any idea bout the competition level for it n also is it a good choice for future n if it is then should i go for electives in neuro or internal medicine??

also how the endocrinology is as an option??

I'LL be really THANKFUL to you if u'll reply me.

                                              THANKS DEAR!!

Hi Sonik

I don't think it is a highly competitive field like surgery or radio... I always believe you should try to go into the specialty of your choice... I read it somewhere "Do the job you like and you don't WORK even a single day"... so as long as you are enjoying your job... it's the best job for you!

Hi,

i am going to apply match this year.....september 2011 for 2012 match...............i was looking at the pre-requsites of various programs of internal medicine ............there is a stipulation of   "graduation from medical school within last five years"...................does that mean applying within five years of graduatin or within five years of starting your residency.

my gradution date is april 2007................and i am applying in september 2011.........................does that make it with in five years ?

anyone who has applied match before please help me out......as i am narrowing down my search of programs.

umar plz reply to that

AOA

one of my friends who has recently applied for a residency match , during one of his interviews came across a buzz dat  after 2011 number of american graduates are increasing for each year............he was saying that some of the residents at his interviewing hospital told him  that chances for imgs in scoring interview calls will reduce after 2012 match bcoz for 2013 match american graduates number applying for residency will increase..........................this is so depressing news.................has anyone got any info regarding this isssue? how much this is going to affect imgs?...........and dere was also some talks relating health bill? what is dis?

Ya the number of american students graduating and applying for the 2012 match will be much more than the 2011 match. also a lot of img frinedly programs in the north east are closing down. Source:My seniors who are Current residents in residency programs all accross the country and US medical students who I did my clerkships with. So best of luck to everyone here because believe me the squeeze is on.

 Hi

the ECFMG website is asking for a national identification no for the application for step 1. My problem is that, I have to get my passport changed hence the no might change. Will that cause a problem during the exam? Is the same ID required for any verification?

If anyone from India knows if the UID or aadhar card no helps?

another question, does ecfmg require any verification from my college for step 1 other than the documents that I need to get signed and send? Or is the verification required only when u apply for ecfmg certification?

thanx a lot guys for all the information on this website. This always comes tomy rescue, come what may!
