Health Insurance

Almost all the electives providing institutes in USA will need your health insurance before approving you to work in their hospital. So, You will need to send a photocopy of your original insurance document along with your application, where ever you apply.

Health Insurance in USA is very costly; majority of the institutes also accept the insurance of other countries. However, Johns Hopkins always need sAmerican Insurance. They don’t accept any other one.

  • REQUIREMENTS:
Remember to carry your identities i.e both Original N.I. card and original passport with you. Tell them that you want your insurance to be starting one month earlier before the start of your elective rotation dates, as it will give an impression that you will be covered by the insurance during whole of your stay in USA.
  • In Lahore, Pakistan, I used North Star Insurance Company, Temple Road, Lahore whereas many of my friends used New Jubillee insurance company near Bank Square & G.P.O, Lahore. It was pretty cheap around Rs. 700-1500 and ensured for 1-2 lac rupees for 3-6 months.

hello friends...... I think for health insurance the best option is Tata AIG .... Contact in ur town a Tata AIG person.Plz go for a regular Travel gaurd silver plan.. coz the student plan is costly.. And all u need is ur passport.
Benefits are-
1.U get it in one day max two.
2.the cost is just 5000 appx for 3 months for insurance worth 50000 $ .
3.If ur electives get cancelled then u get a full refund (they just deduct the taxes).
4.U get all the required coverage.
All the best to all.. hope this info helps...
p.s- I dont work for Tata AIG :P

dear umer bhai! i must appreciate all the effort u have put to help us. allah bless u!! i am a 4th year medical student at allama iqbal medical college, lahore. im applying for electives these days. wanted to ask u about health insurance papers detail. I got mine from NJI, lahore. theyv put Pak Rs. stamps on it. a friend of mine said that v have to put $ stamps, not Rs. is that true??

Secondly, is it ok if our insurance paper contains our NIC no. , but not the passport no.?

thank you

Thanks for your kind words. Many of the people in KE including most of my friends got their health insurance from NJI; we all had only our NIC No.(without passport no.) mentioned and there were no stamps in $; only in Pak Rs.; so no worries!

Assalam u Alaiqum!!! I am going to Johns Hopkins for research electives this July InshAllah! I have been asked to get Health Insurance from either University's own Health Program (which is quite expensive) or from any other insurance company based in USA. Umar bhai! Is it really necessary for me to get health insurance? can i skip this formality? on your visit to JHU for electives did u get yourself insured and if yes then from where? Thank You!
