HIPAA

  • HIPAA training means  that  you  are  trained  to use  the confidential  information of  the  hospitals especially  their  patients  in  a  careful  and  professional  manner, so  that  the  information  may  not  be  misused  nor  even  leaked  out to someone.
To overcome it, you will have to  contact  the  elective coordinator of  that institute. He or she  will send you  the  web  address  of their site where  you  can  have  this  training  and  then  get  the  certificate  printed out after passing a  short  test.

  • To do HIPAA compliance training(General Privacy Issues) of John Hopkins click here.
  •  To do HIPAA training of UC Davis click here.

bhai on the double 99ers orkut community (from where i got ur site link), they say hipaa training and certification is available online... some charge 30$ (hipaa.org), others offer it free (ucla.org)... IS THE CERTIFICATION VALID for us clinical electives?? or is it safe to contact the elective co-ordinator 1st?? what did u do bhai?

plz help!!

bhai i went to the jhu site... there are multiple courses after available after registration...u took the 'Tracking and Accounting for Disclosures of Health Information' course right?? whats the time required? n is it a big deal or just a matter of carefully reading the course stuff and answering their questions??

I dont remember.... I might have done this course but the course required for HIPAA is General Privacy Issue course... I dont think there is any time limit... its not a big deal... just read it carefully and answer it at the end... dont worry you can retake the test multiple times... as many times as you want unless you pass.... so dont worry about it! tc n best of luck!

Hey friends I was just going through the HIPAA section and read a few comments regarding where to get HIPAA certification. Umar has rightly given the Johns Hopkins Link . This one is from UCLA at Davis (its completely free) and the one that I used for applications and it was accepted !

Sincerely,

-Purav

yeah u got it right suman..

Once you are done with the quiz and once you get the certificate, (which i guess u can not save), you should print the certificate immediately..

all the best

hello Umar,

first of all greetings on a wonderful website..

this is my first talk with you.. i just took the HIPAA training of both John hopkins n UC Davis. i scored 100 % in both. now should i take out a print out of both or a single one is enough? n since i thought of USMLE now i.e., after my internship i am not eligible for electives.. does this HIPAA training help for observerships or externships??

Hi Umar bhai I took the Hipaa test from JHU website. I only did General Privacy one. The certificate only shows my name and a tick only on the general privacy one. Is it enough? Did u require to have malpractice insurance when u went for clinical electives? Is staten island university hospital a good place to apply for. I know that u have green card so probably u won't be having much knowledge about the visa issue but can anyone tell me about the refusal on the basis of section 214 b. I've read all the details of it. But how to prove strong ties with ur country. Sorry my all questions are of different topic buy answers would be gegreatly appreciated. Waiting for the reply!

1. Yes it is enough!

2. Yes! I bought malpractice insurance!

3. I think so!

4. There is written much detail about how to show your improve ties with home country in various posts of visa section. Please visit them!

Thank u Umar Bhai Well I've got someone in staten island university hospital. Will it help me getting a clinical elective. Right now I'm in 4th year in Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur. My prof will start in the last week of December. I haven't applied to any university yet. Aap ko to PTA hoga k in Lahore people are aware of everything. But in bahwalpur nobody is that much oriented. So that's y I got late in knowing all about electives. I've lived my whole life in Kuwait. I just came for MBBS. So does this shows I have weak ties with Pakistan. Please I really really need guidance from u. Coz a month back I was zero about all this elective thing. Now I'm getting to know all these things. I must say it was due to ur website I managed to do HIPAA training otherwise I wasn't even able to look for it. I need to ask much more from u. I'll ask u later all the rest n keep u informed about my progress. Tc Salaam

If he is a faculty member, he might help! You are not at all late for electives work; most of the students apply in their final year. I dont think living abroad proves weak ties to home country; it might help u show ur good visa history. Thanks a lot for your kind words!

Thanks alot Umar bhai, It means travel history counts a bit in getting visa, right? Kher I'll keep u updated whatever I do. Once again thanks for ur cooperation.

Umar bhai, Can I have ur email id? I know it's too much to ask. Many would've asked u and I know ur answer. Probably u would be saying k contact me through website. I promise I won't be disturbing u at all. It's just maybe I'll like to show u my documents through email. Pls that will be a big favor! I've got so many question and I'll try to post them on ur website too. Waiting for ur reply!
